There are numerous accommodation options in South West
Nova Scotia, from historic bed and breakfast establishments
in one of many quaint villages or towns in the region to
cozy cottages overlooking the ocean or the Bay of Fundy.
|
|
The Yarmouth and Digby ferries provide an important
transportation link to the area via Bar Harbour and Portland,
Maine and St. John, New Brunswick; and of course, the fast
100 series highways in Nova Scotia make the drive from the
Stanfield International Airport in Halifax quick and accessible.

Nova Scotia wines are among the best in Canada and continue to
win international tasting awards year after year. Established
wineries like Jost Vineyards in Malagash and Grand Pre Wines near
Wolfville continue to dominate wine sales in the province, while
lesser known farmgate wineries and vineyards have given rise to
a new breed of wine makers and grape varieties in the region.
Among the new vineyard and wine producing regions in Nova Scotia
is Bear River. Known as the ‘Switzerland of Nova Scotia’, the
sunny slopes and deep valleys of this picturesque little town
attract more than seasonal visitors. These glacial slopes are
soil rich and well-drained and receive more than their fair share
sun – perfect conditions for several grape varieties including
pinot noir, pinot gris, new york Muscat and others.
Local vineyards are open for tours during the summer months and
soon two of the local establishments will open retail shops in
the village – Arcadie House Vineyards and Bear River Vineyards.
